– A Social Media Site for Book Lovers

I like the way that the FAQ describes the site as an “interactive social media site.” This is another book lovers site that is inline with Web 2.0 in that you can add your own book information and share that information with others. You can let people know what you are reading and see what friends are reading too. Recommendations, book lists and opinions are part of the social sharing in the Shelfari community. If you have tried Shelfari let me know what you think.

Hmmm. Look at # in the Terms & Agreements:

    9. Submissions
You acknowledge and agree that any materials, including but not limited to questions, comments, suggestions, ideas, plans, notes, drawings, original or creative materials or other information, provided by you in the form of email or other submissions to Company, or any postings on the Site, are non-confidential and shall become the sole property of Company. Company shall own exclusive rights, including all intellectual property rights, and shall be entitled to the unrestricted use and dissemination of these materials for any purpose, commercial or otherwise, without acknowledgment or compensation to you.

I’ve been on Shelfari for a few months and love the interactive features. Where Amazon reviews are anonymous, Shelfari allows you to see what your friends are reading and their opinions on books. It alerts you where there is activity (discussions, new opinions) around books on your shelves and lets you know what other site users share your taste in books–possibly inspiring your next read. It is easy to use, looks great, and keeps feeding this book addiction of mine. *the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem…* :0)

I thought it sounded like an interesting and useful site and now I’m glad to know that it is a helpful site too. I’m glad you mentioned the features because that to me is so Web 2.0! Sharing the information, to me, would be the main reason for using such a site. And please don’t seek help for your book addiction!
